Ohio Aggressively Pursues Federal Education Dollars

The Obama Administration has set aside a pot of more than $4 billion to go to states in support of education. The Race to the Top fund is intended to help states establish and expand highly innovative programs that would serve as models for the nation. It's money that the Ohio Department of Education is aggressively applying to receive. Scott Stephens is the Senior Writer for the education magazine Catalyst Ohio. He spoke with ideastream®'s Eric Wellman.

Normandy High School Math Teacher Receives National Educator Award

Math teacher Jennifer McCalla was honored this month with a National Educator Award from the Milken Family Foundation. Jennifer is one of fifty educators nationwide - and the only one in Ohio - selected for the honor this year. Ms. McCalla has taught secondary mathematics at Normandy High School in Parma for more than ten years and is chair of the math department.
